Technology has seriously improved the way a window can perform. Today there are triple pane glass packages filled with krypton gas, non conducting spacer systems, and super reflectant low E coatings that can perform nearly as well as an insulated wall!

Wanna know a secret of how to quickly judge how good a window is?

This is something that most contractors dont even know. On every window sold in the U.S. there is a sticker with a rating on it. That rating is called a U factor, and determines how efficient the entire window is. It is a mathematical answer to how much conduction, convection, radiation, and air leakage can get through the window. The LOWER the number the better. A standard double pane window with no upgrades will be about .50 which is basically the same as an old single pane with a storm on it. A rating of .35 will meet energy star rating, and the very best double pane windows can get down to .28!!

Triple pane windows start at around .25 and can get even as low as .12 in some ultra premium models.
